“Where’s Mary Portas when you need her?”

Wighton Architects have been commissioned to submit a planning application for the refurbishment of three adjacent ground floor commercial units and conversion of the two upper floors into seven apartments located in a bustling North Yorkshire market town. With the ‘Future of the High Street’ championed by Mary Portas, currently high on the agenda of the government the proposals look to breathe new life into the historic buildings.

The proposals look to work with the existing historic fabric, retaining many of the original details, to create a mix of seven, 1 and 2 bed apartments. The project has been made viable due to the increase in the number of apartments which have been incorporated into the scheme through the sympathetic remodeling of the space whilst retaining many of the original features.

To the ground floor the commercial units are to be designed to provide a variety of different sized units in order to provide maximum flexibility. Located close to the historic centre of the town the properties look to attract further investment in the town whilst also addressing the need for more housing.

So forget Amazon, the online retailer not the rather large forest in South America, and get out and support your local High Street, remember, YOUR HIGH STREET NEEDS YOU!
